remember the little pod on my brug? Well I just had to show you what a beauty she is. The first few days she was a pale yellow, as the days go by her scent gets stronger and her color gets deeper. She is almost orange.

Lets review her transformation shall we?

Daisy Chains August 28, 2008

The fall season is upon us, it has always been my favorite time of the year. Things begin to wind down from the busy hustle and bustle of summer. The weather is

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L

The air has a earthy smell, the spiders being to spin webs in all corners of the homestead.  Soon we will have pumpkins to carve and leaves to rake. I remember going to my Grandmas house in the fall and getting the leaves all raked into the biggest pile possible just to jump into them. I would roll around and and smell them. Do kids still do that?

I am so thankful I grew up when I did. The world was a friendlier place to be. I was a 70’s kid and probably why I love to make daisy chains still to this day. I would ride my bike for hours letting each day become a new adventure. All the neighborhood kids played kick ball in the street. We knew and loved our neighbors as if they were family. People smiled and took time to say hello. It is my wish this season that the world bring back some of the good old days…. In our world and in our hearts

Peace

I have too many pictures all of which are unorganized and just sitting in boxes.  I started to scrap book but I do not know how I could possibly put them all in a scrapbook format. I HAVE SOOOOO many. I am trying to think of something  to do with all of them.  Sooo, I was thinking of just going back to the regular photo albums just to get them all in order…

I treasure all of them because when I look through them I can go back to a moment in time and relive it!  What a special gift a picture can give us.

Best answer for most August 19, 2008

Sometimes when people ask ” how are you” It is just easier to say “fine” most people seem to like that answer the best.

Most of the time they really do not want to know the truth,  it is just something they say to say something.  When I do say ” I am fine” I hate the few seconds of silence on the other end

and so we live on

Tomorrow is the first day of school. Yes, the youngest will be starting middle school in approx 10 1/2 hours.  I allowed him the day to get his last bit of fun in before the official start of a new school year. He spent the day swimming eating Mc Donald’s and playing Halo.  The scout meeting was cut short to allow the boys time to prepare for the first day of school. We arrived home and started to gather his things that were needed for tomorrow. It felt like total chaos to say the least!!!! When did school get so complicated?  When I went to school we had paper and pencils and maybe a special folder with some kind of picture on it.  The rules have changed my friend, we have gotten all high tech! This is in the name of making things run better. Kids now have to carry large messenger bags stuffed with everything you will need for the day because there is no time to visit lockers. You now need a bus pass to get on the bus, without it your screwed.  Not to mention they add a different form for the parents to fill out before you can even walk through the door. What happened to pencil and paper and a lunch card that was all that was required to go learn.  I think I just got stressed out watching my youngest try to stuff everything he needed into one bag and almost resorting to tears at the fact it did not all fit. I could sense his frustration and concern and I admit, I just wanted to sit and cry for him.  The first day of school was suppose to be exciting not filled with anxiety. Youngest is a smart boy but according to some people,  he lacks necessary organizational skills.  At our 4th grade “meet the teacher night” a teacher spoke to us about how important it was for these kids to be organized. She stated that the ones that were not organized by 5th grade were possibly doomed. Most would become uninterested in school and ultimately drop out. My ears perked  up and I suddenly felt defensive, she just put the last nail in the school coffin for me. Yes to be honest I got defensive and quite honestly formed a nasty attitude toward the public school system. How dare a teacher say something like that!!  What a discouraging comment.  I thought all teachers were suppose to believe in the students they teach.  She may have well said, ” if you cant get organized by the 5th grade kid, give up and stop trying, you will drop out anyway”… GRRRRRR makes my ears red just thinking about it.

Organization and handwriting are both things his teachers and myself have worked on with him since the 4th grade. But according to that teacher he may not have  what it takes for this new age schooling.  I just want him to have a pleasant experience at school this year. I am going to believe that he will be just fine!

This leaves me feeling so nervous. I never felt this way with my two older kids, I just kissed them good bye and sent them to the bus stop and knew they would be ok. This younger one is a whole different story. I do not feel like a over protective hen, I am just trying to raise him in a whole different era. things have changed so much since the other two were his age. I did not worry about letting them walk to the store, or if they were organized enough to pass the 6th grade. The world is a different place and I am not sure I know how to adjust.

Around the house today August 16, 2008

School is getting much closer to starting now, 4 days to be exact! It is a good thing because I think the kids are getting bored, as you can see what they have done to poor murphy

We are finally getting our power lines buried! They were hanging so low on the side deck, that we never felt safe to use it.

Two more wonderful things happened around the house today one being that my lotus in the front lily pond  bloomed yippeeee. I wait all summer for my 1or 2 blooms to arrive. The first day the  bloom is pink and the second day it is yellow, then is sadly dies. Such a beautiful flower to last only 2 days.

The second wonderful surprise is the new little bud on my Brugmansia. Brugmansia’s ( brug for short) are a tropical tree. In my zone I am unable to keep them in the ground all year due to our cold winters. I plant them in pots so that I am able to bring them into the basement and allow them to go dormant for the winter. In some cases you can keep them under grow lights to grow the first year.  I planted all new seedlings this year and did not expect to get a bloom since they usually take at least 2 summers to get establish, so this was a treat to see a bud the first year. If you have not smelled a brugmansia bloom, you are really missing out, It is what I would imagine Heaven to smell like…

the little pod is on the right of the plant, it almost touches the chair. Stay tuned for a picture of the first bloom. I mixed all the colors up so i can not be sure what color the bloom will be.  My fingers are crossed that it will be PINK!

Summer sewing project August 14, 2008

I have been wanting to sew this dragon for about 2 years now. This summer I decided if not now…when? So I hauled the sewing machine up the stairs and started my summer project. I spent about 15 hours on this thing and I am pleased at the way it turned out. This was my test dragon that I promised my 12 year old he could have to hang in his room. The next one I make I will try to use more colors and patterns, I am thinking reds and greens with a hint of deep gold and purple with just a splash of black…Ohhhhh   all the yummy variations I can come up with, it just makes my mouth water.

As it turns out, I am pretty darn proud of myself for completing it.  It should look pretty neat once we hang it up. I have just a few tiny details to add, then up he goes.

Working on the hardest part, the head

TADA…. A new dragon is born, Now all he needs is a name and a birth certificate!
